The Carmine began as a richly textured brocade garment in earthy rust, bronze and deep brown, its woven floral pattern giving the piece an almost tapestry like depth. Reimagined by hand, its original structure becomes the foundation for layers of antique inspired ornamentation.
Golden trim traces the sweeping edges, followed by long cream fringe and a line of translucent red and brown beading that catches the light against the darker brocade. The original buttons remain along the front, while a pair of ornate vintage belt buckles anchor the lower points. From each buckle falls a gathering of lace and textile remnants in wine, blush, cream and black, intentionally varied in texture and length.
At the back, the trim and fringe fall into a deep V, finished with a floral fabric covered button at its point. Black floral lace trails beneath it, giving the back its own quiet detail while allowing the intricate brocade to remain the centerpiece.
Made from an existing garment and thoughtfully transformed by hand, Carmine carries traces of what she was before while becoming something entirely her own.
